This is an Amakusa whetstone that is intermediate between the red (Torato) and the high-grade white.
It is becoming difficult to mine the high-grade white Amakusa whetstone.
Therefore, we introduce this hybrid whetstone... Medium White.
It is also more affordable than the high-grade white.

It falls into the medium grit category.
We believe it is suitable for sharpening kitchen knives, carpentry tools, and agricultural tools.
You can use any surface for sharpening.
As it is a natural stone, there are hard and soft spots, and areas with air bubbles. Areas with air bubbles are preferred as they hold the slurry. There may be small chips or, rarely, cracks. Amakusa whetstones are mined from the island of Kami-Amakusa Town, Oyano, Kumamoto Prefecture, a place associated with Amakusa Shiro's war funds.
They have long been favored for sharpening kitchen knives, carpentry tools, and agricultural tools.
Recently, due to the spread of artificial whetstones and the aging of producers, they have become less common in the market.
We are now delivering them directly from Amakusa to those who can use them.
